Samaritan Counseling Center Hawai’i provides professional and accessible behavioral health counseling that incorporates the spiritual traditions of individuals, families, and communities in Hawai’i, regardless of their ability to pay. The Center also participates in community outreach and events to provide mental health education, increase access to mental health care, and help reduce the stigma of mental illness.

We are always recruiting interested, talented staff counselors, volunteers, and board members. We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome diversity in our staff and leadership. Services are provided to all without discrimination related to age, ability, religion, socioeconomic status, ethnicity or race, gender expression or sexual orientation.

Staff Counselors

If you are compassionate, passionate about mental health, and believe that spirituality can be a source of strength in the healing process, please consider joining us. We are looking for staff counselors on a part-time basis who are licensed in Hawaii as psychologists, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors – especially in the Ewa Beach, Kapolei, and Kalihi areas. We offer flexible hours, credentialing, billing, office and marketing support, peer support and supervision, and more.

Benefits of being a Staff Counselor: A shared sense of purpose; flexible hours and schedules; access to office locations on O’ahu; administrative support (credentialing, client intake, electronic health records, claims, and billing); clinical supervision; clinical meetings for case review and peer support; marketing support (website, social media, outreach events); guaranteed reimbursements, regardless of insurance or client’s ability to pay (before Center commission); national accreditation by the Solihten Institute.

Requirements: Master’s Degree or higher in clinical psychology, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, or mental health counseling; licensure in the State of Hawai’i; and professional liability insurance.

Interested in becoming a staff counselor? Email your resume/CV and a statement of interest to info@samaritanhawaii.org.

Practicum Interns

Unfortunately, at this time we cannot support a practicum student.

Volunteers

Office Volunteer: If you are available for 2-4 hours per week and would like to gain experience in a healthcare office, please consider becoming a Samaritan Volunteer. Light office duties include answering phones, welcoming clients, filing papers, and helping with mailings. Every hour makes a difference, helping us keep our costs low so that we never turn away anyone who needs help.

Social Media Ambassador: If you spend 1-2 hours per month on social media, we invite you to regularly share mental health news, events, and stories on your social media. It doesn’t have to be related to our Center, but it should be positive and respectful. To share ideas, we will add you to our monthly “Mental Health Moment” email list.

Event Ambassador: Interested in helping out at free mental health education workshops? Throughout the year, there are opportunities to help with event check-in tables, refreshments, resource tables, and information.

Requirements: Ages 18+; signed confidentiality agreement.

Ready to become a volunteer? Email your name and contact information, a statement of interest, and days/times you may be available to info@samaritanhawaii.org. Our regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 3 pm.

Board Members

If you are energetic, committed to mental health, passionate about access to quality mental health care, and want to make a difference in people’s lives, please consider serving on the Board. The all-volunteer Board’s primary responsibilities are strategic oversight and fundraising.

Benefits of serving on the Board: You can build strong relationships with other interfaith board members and supporters; gain leadership experience; and ensure that people have access to compassionate, quality mental health services in Hawai’i.

Requirements: Being an advocate for mental health; commitment to attending 8-10 board meetings per year in Honolulu and/or by Zoom; ability to serve on at least one Committee; willingness to make a financial contribution, as you are able to do so; and willingness to help with fundraising events and campaigns.

Ready to join the Board? Email a Board Member Profile, your resume/CV, and a statement of interest to info@samaritanhawaii.org. A board member will contact you to arrange an interview.
