The unique perspective we bring is the understanding of the domain of the spirit and how sacred traditions enhance our lives. We understand the important role that a spiritual life plays. It is not required that this be a part of treatment, but we do not ignore this important aspect of health.

What can mental health counseling do for me? Mental health counseling (or psychotherapy) provides a safe, objective, and confidential space where you can talk about your concerns and learn coping skills to deal with issues such as anxiety, stress, isolation, depression, grief, personal and work conflicts, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), domestic violence, and substance use.

How long are counseling sessions? Visits are 25-50 minutes and may be scheduled weekly, biweekly, monthly, or as needed.

Where can I receive care? Mental health counseling is available by appointment only (no walk-ins, please).

  • Office Visits. There are a limited number of in-person visits at our main office in Honolulu and five satellite offices on O’ahu in Honolulu, Pearl City, Kaneohe, and Wahiawa, based on counselor availability.
  • Telehealth Visits. You can receive mental health counseling from the safety, comfort, and convenience of your home. You need a smartphone, computer, or tablet with Internet access and audio/video capabilities; and a private, secure location.
  • Home Visits. If you have mobility issues or difficulty leaving your home, we offer a limited number of home visits for seniors and caregivers in Honolulu. Parking access is required. Please read our Home Visits brochure for more information.

Is mental health counseling covered by insurance? Yes! Most mental health counseling sessions are covered by your health insurance plan or Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Depending on your plan, you may need a pre-authorization for services and you may have a co-payment or co-insurance.

What if I don’t have health insurance? If you have financial resources, we offer sliding scale fees. If you are uninsured, underinsured, elderly, or low-income, you may qualify for the Client Assistance Fund (CAF), which subsidizes mental health counseling for those with limited financial means.

How do I make an appointment? When you call Samaritan Counseling Center Hawaii at 808-545-2740, we do our best to match you with a counselor who fits your needs and schedule. A licensed counselor will call you to schedule your first appointment. Most insurance plans will cover telehealth sessions the same way that they cover in-person sessions.

What paperwork do I need to fill out? Before your first appointment, we ask you to complete the Client Forms and return them to us by mail to 1020 S. Beretania Street, Honolulu, HI 96814; by fax to 808-545-2852; or by email to admin@samaritanhawaii.org.
